Scalable Manufacturing

No Persistent Plastic

No P.L.A.

No Greenwashing!

We replace oil-based plastics that break down into micro plastics, with plant-based polymers that break down to biomass, water, and carbon dioxide. Candee is launching several products to replace single-use plastic – so far, they are biodegradable coat hangers, extruded sheets for printing, and a 3D printable material for mannequins and POS; more products are planned from our patent pending material.

  • unique new material
  • 100% biodegradable
  • blend of plant-based* polymers
  • breaks down to biomass, water, and carbon dioxide
  • time-initiated biodegradation appropriate to product requirements
  • non-toxic and non-polluting
  • replaces fossil-based plastics
  • replaces PLA-based plastics

* note: some of the biopolymers used by Candee in the creation of our unique blended materials still have some elements of biodegradable fossil ingredients, however all feedstock partners have R&D programs that are already delivering new versions of the biopolymers that have removed 98% of fossil content from the biopolymer family selected by Candee for its blended materials.

Hangers, large scale print and 3D printing are our current focusses in the Retail Industry but we’re always looking for new and innovative ways in which we can apply Candee.  The possibilities are endless, join the sustainability revolution!

Where are your materials and products made?

Formulation work is in the North East of England, our Hangers are made in the Midlands, with 3D printing & large scale print produced in London.

What is the scalability?

The current capacity in the commercial supply chain is over 100,000 tonnes per year.

How does the pricing compare to other materials?

This is dependent upon the amount of material that is in the finished product and the percentage of the product cost that is made up of manufacturing vs the raw material. As a rough guide, for example, Candee expect a typical coat hanger made from this material to sit in between the cost of a recycled plastic coat hanger and a wooden coat hanger.

Can the product be composted?

Yes this material will biodegrade to biomass, carbon dioxide and water in a compost heap but it will take about a year to do so depending upon the density of the material in the finished product.

Can the product be recycled?

Yes, we have a closed loop recycling process where supplied coat hangers are collected by the retail stores and returned to Candee’s processing centres for recycling. We cannot mix our material with fossil polymers in the recycling stream. Over time, as recycling systems are updated, our material will be processed in mass recycling centres in the normal manner, just like other recyclable materials, however the recycling industry has not yet updated their machinery to accommodate the material.

What is the end of life plan for the material if it ends up at someone’s home?

For now the advise would be to use in the home until it shows signs of degrading, then place in garden compost heap or add to general waste.

What is the timeline for natural biodegradation?

This can be adjusted to suit the use of the material but, if left in the natural environment at the end of its life, it will biodegrade to nothing thanks to the microbes in the soil consuming the material, leaving biomass, carbon dioxide, and water remaining.

What colour options or variations can be integrated into the product?

A full biodegradable colour chart is available.

What scent additives / options can be integrated into the product?

Scents can be added to the material, such as the sugar smell of Candee Bio materials. Specific scent requests will have to be tested in Candee’s lab before scaling into full production.
